From my earliest recollection, I loved music. There was always music in my house. Radio and/or Lawrence Welk on the TV. My father loved to sing, and he was very good. He also played the harmonica and the piano.

When the Tijuana Brass got big I started playing the trumpet with the Bradford Manor Drum Corp. Even before that, from grammar school on, I would sing. When the Folk scene took off and the Beatles performed on The Ed Sullivan Show, I got a guitar. I found music to be an outlet to say and express my feelings.

My father supported my musical endeavors. Whenever I played in front of people, he was there to support me. In his last years, my wife Cathy would take him to whatever restaurant I was playing at so he could listen to me. When he was no longer well enough to live at home and went into a nursing home, I followed him in with my guitar.  I didn't know just how to talk to my father, but I could sing to him. My voice came from him, and it was my way of giving back a little of what he had given to me. When he could, he sang along with me, and his voice would always add to the song.

One by one, people would come by to my father's room and ask if they could listen. It got to the point where I would tell my father and "our new friends" that I would see them again next week.  As the group continued to grow, we moved to larger areas until we got to the dining room, the largest area available.

This July will make two years since my father passed away. I still return to that nursing facility once a week to play for the patients.
